[...] Here’s an article I wrote for Philly Beer Scene, a magazine based out of the same place I used to be based out of. I wrote about the Portland beer scene, which is something I feel quite strongly about. When I was younger, I hated beer. That’s because I was drinking Natty Ice. Finally, I got a fake ID (and then another one when the first got taken away) and by the time I was able to confidently order something other than whatever name I could pull out of my parent’s fridge, I found I’d taken quite a liking to the stuff.
As usual, I could not agree more with Lew Bryson. Are you really that out of touch with the way retail sales work in this country, Senator McIllhinney? Consumer demand is what drives the market, not restrictive protectionist laws like this idiocracy we have in Pennsylvania. Over 70% of Pennsylvania residents want to see beer and wine sold in grocery stores. More than 85% want to see the ridiculous case law end. I would submit to you, Senator, that the case law hurts small breweries because it discourages sampling of pricey beers. The distributor system really only works for Joe Sixpack who stops in once or twice a week for his Bud or Coors. I'm sick to death of the state's continuing insistance that just because beer and wine sales work well in 47 other states, it won't work here.

Senator, you say: "...in nearly all supermarkets that have beer sales, large brewers such as Miller, Coors and Anheuser-Busch, enjoyed a virtual monopoly on shelf space."

I challenge you to go into the supermarkets in Pennsylvania that are currently selling beer and see if that's true. Or you could just save time and ask almost anyone who reads this site who's been to those stores; they'll tell you that's simply not so. It's not that way in other states, either. Might have been true ten years ago, but things are different now. If you want to make things more fair for family-owned distributorships, privatize the PLCB's retail operations and let the distributors sell liquor and wine. Problem solved.

Just be careful with the hops... It can cause "malignant Hyperthermia" aka fatally high body temperature- in certain dogs

In all fairness, Isid'or is a great beer, and of all those choices there's no reason why it shouldn't be on a 2011 top list.
... ...
Except that it's from 2009.

Cider is NOT beer. No grain, no hops, not beer (and I am a cider fan).

Maybe, dare I say it, the Philly beers don't have enough preservatives and couldn't make the journey? Troegs is limited to a 3-hour drive from harrisburgh and I'm sure many others have those "freshness" requirements.

(Just trying to think up a good reason here, guys!)
